Nestled in the valley of Massat in the Ariege you find Le Tardiou
Le Tardiou is an old, renovated, farm house with a gite at each end of it and our own living space in the middle.
The house is located between the villages of Biert and Massat – which is about two km. Massat has everything for daily needs: Garage, doctor, pharmacy, post office, tourist office, tabac, butcher, bioshop, wineshop and a small supermarket. There is also a very nice cafe/restaurant with a terrace where most of the staff speak English, Maxil Café. In the summer there is another restaurant in the Hostellerie Les Trois Seigneurs, which offers good local style food for those who are hungry after a long walk or cycle trip.
The area is a wonderful place for nature lovers, being unpolluted and rich in wildlife (birds, butterflies, vegetation, deer, bears, etc) and having a mountain climate which is warm during the day and cool at night.
There are many walks of differing lengths and difficulties in the area and we have maps of these for those who like walking. About 15 km away in the mountains is the Etang de Lers – a lovely lake with a nice restaurant and terrace overlooking it. The lake is open for fishing (trout mainly) during the summer months, so swimming is not allowed.
